Model 1 adjusted for age, sex, duration of diabetes, smoking habit, BMI, systolic blood pressure, A1C, HDL and LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, diabetic retinopathy at baseline, and treatment with ACE inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers. Model 2 adjusted for albuminuria in addition to covariates as in model 1.
